2023 INCa Paediatric Cancer Research – PEDIAMOB Opens for Applications
Funding is available to support researchers in paediatric oncology through PhD and postdoctoral grants and support for international mobility.
France’s Institut National du Cancer (INCa – National Cancer Institute) was created in 2004 and is the health and science agency responsible for cancer control in France. Its goals include reducing the incidence of avoidable cancers and the number of cancer deaths, improving the quality of life of people with cancer during and after their illness, and reducing inequalities related to cancer.
The INCa Paediatric Oncology Research Call provides PhD and postdoctoral grants and international mobility support. The call is divided into three sections and aims to:
- Finance research theses in paediatric oncology.
- Finance postdoctoral grants in paediatric oncology (in France and abroad).
- Support students (Master’s 2 and PhD), postdoctoral researchers and statutory staff (researchers, doctors, engineers etc) who conduct research work in France to carry out internships abroad, in order to acquire new skills for the development of research projects in paediatric oncology.
The call covers the fields of basic and translational research in paediatric oncology.
The following eligibility criteria apply for candidates:
- PhD Grants:
- Students must be enrolled in Master’s 2 at the start of the 2022-2023 academic year. They must have defended their thesis before 15 September 2023 and provide a certificate of defence before this date. They must also be enrolled in the first year of the doctorate at the start of the 2023-2024 academic year in a doctoral school of a public higher education or research establishment in France.
- Postdoctoral grants in paediatric oncology (in France and abroad):
- Applicants may be young researchers who have obtained their PhD in France and who wish to conduct a postdoctoral internship in science abroad (duration 12 months).
- Applicants may be young researchers who have obtained their PhD abroad and who wish to conduct a postdoctoral internship in science in France (duration 24 months).
- Young French or foreign researchers who wish to do a postdoctoral fellowship in science after their thesis must have held a doctorate in science for less than three years.
- Support for international mobility in order to acquire new skills for the development of research projects in paediatric oncology:
- Applicants may be students (in Master’s 2 and PhD students) and postdoctoral researchers already receiving remuneration in France for a research Master’s, PhD or postdoctoral internship and who wish to do a 3, 6 or 12 month internship abroad as part of their training.
- Applicants may be statutory or permanent staff (researchers, doctors, engineers etc) receiving a remuneration in France and who wish to conduct an internship of 3, 6, or 12 months abroad in order to acquire new skills for the development of research projects in paediatric oncology.
The grant recipient organisation must be one of the following for postdoctoral funding or international mobility funding:
- A French public scientific and technological research institution.
- A French public scientific, cultural and professional institution.
- A French public administrative institution.
- A French healthcare institution such as a university hospital (CHU) or a French comprehensive cancer centre.
The grant recipient organisation for PhD funding must be a public higher education or research establishment in France.
Funding is as follows:
PhD funding:
- From 1 January 2023: €2,044 per month.
- From 1 January 2024: €2,100 per month.
- From 1 January 2025: €2,200 per month.
- From 1 January 2026: €2,300 per month.
Postdoctoral fellowship in France:
- Funding of a maximum of €120,000 for 24 months, all expenses included.
- An additional operating grant (up to a maximum of €50,000 for 24 months) dedicated exclusively to the postdoctoral research work.
- Two flat-rate travel allowance.
Postdoctoral fellowship abroad:
- Funding of a maximum of €60,000 for 12 months, all expenses included.
- An additional operating grant (up to a maximum of €25,000 for 12 months) dedicated exclusively to the postdoctoral research work.
- One flat-rate travel allowance.
International Mobility grants:
- Funding will include a grant for living expenses and a travel allowance to cover return fares, including trips to attend mandatory sessions connected to the training (up to a maximum amount of €13,500 for 12 months).
- An operating grant will also be awarded for the research work during the internship in the laboratory abroad (up to a maximum of €25,000 for 12 months).
Applications to the 2023 call must be submitted by the 15 May 2023 (12:00 Paris time) deadline.
