Prize of ¥10,000,000 to recognise the superlative achievements of a distinguished researcher in the field of fish biology.
The Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS) presents the International Prize for Biology to recognise the work of scientists in systematic biology and taxonomy and other fields of fundamental biology. The prize was established in 1985 to commemorate the sixty-year reign of Emperor Showa and is awarded each year to recognise the superlative achievements of a distinguished researcher for work in a specified field of biology, as identified by the Prize Committee.
Recent fields for nomination include Biology of Evolution, Biology of Environmental Responses, Palaeontology, Cell Biology and Neurobiology.
Nominations are now invited for the 2022 (38th) annual International Prize for Biology, which will be awarded for outstanding research in the field of Fish Biology.
Nominations are invited in respect of biologists, from anywhere in the world, who have conducted outstanding research within the selected field. There are no restrictions on the nationality of the nominee.
The prize includes an imperial gift, certificate, medal and cash award of ¥10,000,000, which are presented at a dedicated ceremony held at the Japan Academy in Tokyo in November/December. In conjunction with the ceremony, an international symposium is held in which the Prize recipient is invited to give a special lecture.
The nomination form is available from the JSPS website.
Completed nominations for the 38th annual award should be submitted by the deadline on 8 April 2022.
