DFG and NRF Support German-Korean Joint Workshops and Research Visits
New call provides funding for exploratory workshops and research visits to establish partnerships between researchers in Germany and South Korea.
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG – German Research Foundation) maintains partnerships and relations with a large number of partner organisations on all continents including the National Research Foundation of Korea (NRF). As part of this cooperation, DFG and NRF are offering funding for German-Korean joint workshops and research visits.
The initiative aims to bring together relevant and competitive researchers from Germany and South Korea to establish collaborative scientific relationships and prepare joint projects.
Funding is available for the following collaborative measures:
- Exploratory workshops.
- Research visits of up to three months.
To facilitate the preparation of a joint research project, both components can also be combined if they are carried out in short succession. All joint activities must be carried out within 12 months of the approval date.
All researchers based at a German research institution in Germany or abroad who have completed their research training, generally by obtaining a doctorate, are eligible to apply for funding to the DFG. Early career researchers are particularly encouraged to apply. Korean applicants are advised to confirm eligibility criteria with NRF.
Each national funding organisation will fund the costs for travel and accommodation of the researchers based in its own country. DFG funding is offered via the DFG Initiation of International Collaboration Programme and covers exploratory workshops and project-related trips abroad. For details on NRF funding levels, applicants are advised to contact NRF directly.
Proposals must be submitted to both organisations in accordance with the proposal preparation requirements of both sides, respectively. Applicants form Korea submit their documents to the NRF, applicants from Germany to the DFG. Proposals will be reviewed by both organisations separately. The results of the review process will be shared between the agencies and support will be granted for those proposals where both DFG and NRF recommend funding.
The deadline for the submission of proposals is 14 April 2022.
