ICRG Research on Gambling Among Underserved Communities

Funding to support research focused on the impact of gambling among underserved communities in the US or Canada.

The International Center for Responsible Gaming (ICRG), formerly the National Center for Responsible Gaming (NCRG), is a US-based 501(c)(3) charitable organisation that was founded in 1996. Its mission is to help individuals and families affected by gambling disorder by supporting peer-reviewed, scientific research into gambling disorder; encouraging the application of new research findings to improve prevention, diagnostic, intervention and treatment strategies; and advancing public education about gambling disorder and responsible gaming.

In the United States, racial and ethnic minorities make up approximately one-third of the population, and it is anticipated that they will become the majority by 2050. Previous research has indicated higher rates of gambling disorder among individuals identifying as ethnic and racial minorities, particularly those facing significant economic challenges. With the expanding gambling industry, there is an urgent need to better understand the prevalence and impact of gambling disorder among indigenous peoples in the United States and Canada. It is essential to investigate the healthcare disparities that hinder these groups from accessing treatment and to identify culturally tailored interventions for addressing gambling issues.

With this in mind, the International Center for Responsible Gaming (ICRG) is providing research grants for projects focused on the impact of gambling on underserved groups in the US or Canada.
