Annual award for outstanding technological innovations internationally.
Bayerische Akademie der Wissenschaften (BAdW – Bavarian Academy of Sciences and Humanities) is the largest of the eight state academies in Germany. It specialises in innovative long-term research, networking, knowledge transfer and science communication. The Academy is home to the Leibniz Supercomputing Center, the Walther-Meissner-Institute for Low Temperature Research, the Commission for Bavarian History and the Bavarian Research Institute for Digital Transformation. The BAdW is mainly financed with funds from the Free State of Bavaria.
The Bavarian Pioneer Award – International High-Tech Prize of the Bavarian Minister President (Internationaler Hightech-Preis des Bayerischen Ministerpräsidenten) honours established top scientists and their scientific achievements which have resulted in groundbreaking technological innovations and inventions or show corresponding future potential.
The prize is given annually in the following categories:
- Electronic Communications Technology.
- Telecommunications.
- Optical Communications Technology.
- Satellite Communications.
- Quantum Mechanics.
- Aerospace Engineering/Technology.
- Autonomous Systems Technology.
- Medical Technology (Imaging).
The focus of the 2025 prize is on Information and Communication Technology. The following fields are supported:

- Telecommunications.
- Optical communication technology.
- Satellite communication.
The prize is supported by the Ulrich L. Rohde Foundation.
