Funding research focused on diseases and conditions, prevention and intervention, treatments, services and outcomes, all aimed at improving patient care and public health in Wales.
Health and Care Research Wales (HCRW) is a networked organisation, supported by Welsh Government, which brings together partners across NHS Wales, local authorities, universities, research institutions, third sector and others. It works together with its partners to promote research into diseases, treatments, services and outcomes that can lead to discoveries and innovations which can improve and even save people’s lives.
The Integrated Funding Scheme consists of two researcher-led arms and a focused arm.
The researcher-led arms are organised by research type, focussing on:
- Translational and clinical research.
- Health and social care services and public health research.
Remit and priority areas
The translational and clinical research arm will support translational through to later stage clinical research, with the focus on research aimed at diagnosis, prevention and early intervention, treatment development or treatment improvement for diseases and conditions affecting, or of particular relevance to, people in Wales.
The health and social care services and public health research arm will fund research focused on the organisation and delivery of health and/or social care services or public health issues, including prevention and population health, of importance in Wales.
The focused arm will support research addressing the research priorities outlined in the individual focused call research brief. All applicants must demonstrate how the proposed research aligns with the requirements highlighted in the research brief.
