British Oxygen Company Advanced Fellowship Open for Applications
The National Institute for Academic Anaesthesia (NIAA) is inviting applications for the British Oxygen Company Advanced Fellowship awards, which offer up to £320,000 over four years to support clinicians and non-clinical researchers conducting an ambitious research programme in anaesthesia, perioperative care, critical care, pain medicine or related discipline. The awards are funded by the BOC Chair of Anaesthesia Fund, which is only open for applications once every five years.
The awards are intended for postdoctoral researchers who are working towards an advanced fellowship or are developing a credible application for a Research Chair in the next five years. Applicants must either hold a doctoral degree or be able to demonstrate a commensurate level of research experience, including through publications, previous grant success and impact.
Applications may focus on any part of the translational research pathway, ranging from discovery science through to policy research.
For the 2025 application round, up to two awards will be made:
- At least one award will be offered to a clinician, of any discipline or specialty, for a research programme within scope.
- A second award will be offered to a non-clinician researcher for a research programme within scope in any scientific discipline, including (but not limited to) discovery (laboratory) science, engineering, social, statistical or data science.
The NIAA may choose to award two clinician scientist awards if no suitable applications from non-clinician researchers are received.
Applications must be submitted to NIAA by 5 September 2025.
