NIHR Academy Member Event Fund

Programme to support members of the NIHR Academy wishing to organise events that promote the NIHR Academy programmes and its strategic priorities. 

Established in 2006 and primarily funded by the Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC), the National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) funds health and care research in the UK.

The NIHR Academy provides training and support to health and care researchers at all stages of their careers. It offers funding for personal and institutional career development as well as training.

As part of the its Academy programme, NIHR is operating the Academy Member Event Fund which provides support to plan and hold events that promote NIHR Academy programmes and strategic priorities. Funding is available primarily for individual Academy members to organise their own events that meet the award objectives and to advocate for the NIHR Academy. A key element of the programme is its focus on individuals from underrepresented professions or individuals working in priority areas. 

Events can include, but are not limited to, those that:

  • Support the development of applications to NIHR Academy programmes.
  • Build networks and provide peer to peer support for NIHR Academy members and/or prospective applicants to NIHR Academy programmes from underrepresented professions or working in priority areas.
  • Provide training or support for NIHR Academy members addressing NIHR’s strategic priorities.

Events must be targeted at one of the following professional groups and can also address one of the below priority areas. 

Professional groups

  • Pharmacists
  • Public health
  • Social care
  • Radiographers

  • Multiple long term conditions
  • Sustainability
  • Inclusive research (including sex and gender) as a condition of NIHR funding
  • Working with industry
