Funding for German universities and research institutions for the establishment of an African Centre of Excellence in Ghana in the field of sustainable infrastructure.

The DAAD (Deutscher Akademischer Austauschdienst – German Academic Exchange Service) is the largest German support organisation in the field of international academic cooperation.

The DAAD – African Centre of Excellence for Sustainable Infrastructure (Ghana) (Fachzentrum Afrika für Nachhaltige Infrastruktur (Ghana)) programme is funded as part of the Centres of African Excellence initiative. The initiative funds the development of (degree) programmes relating to the training and professional development of specialists for participation in academia, society and business, creating research capacities and promoting networking among African and German research institutions.

The programme runs the funding lines A, B and C. The present call invites applications for Line A: Capacity Building and Transfer.

Line A aims to establish the structure of the Centre of Excellence. Teaching and capacity building, the development of flexible modules, as well as networking and knowledge transfer activities are the focus of the education and training of specialists and future decision-makers. Line A is open to all engineering disciplines, including civil engineering, architecture, and urban and regional planning.

Eligible applicants are state and state-recognised German universities as well as non-university research institutions based in Germany. A prerequisite is a partnership with one or more higher education institutions in Ghana, or an existing network of partners from among these institutions.

A grant of up to €2,250,000 can be applied for to cover costs for personnel resources, material resources, travel and accommodation. The funding period begins on 1 January 2027 at the earliest and ends on 31 December 2031 at the latest.
