FMSH Post-War Contexts: Rebuilding Societies
Closing Date: 14-09-2026
Funding for French higher education institutions and research organisations to host early-stage international research projects exploring transitions between war and peace, for a period of three years.
The Fondation Maison des Sciences de l’Homme (FMSH) aims to foster excellence in humanities and social sciences (SHS) research by promoting national and international collaboration among researchers, research centres and institutes, while supporting the creation and operation of scientific networks, working groups and experimental research teams.
Launched in 2026, the Post-War Contexts: Rebuilding Societies call invites proposals for research exploring transitions between war and peace, when power structures, legitimacy, and political, economic and social relations are reshaped. It analyses these reconfigurations from local to global scales, from specific events to the longue durée, examining structural transformations and the processes through which societies stabilise and build sustainable peace.
The initial call for proposals focuses on post-war contexts in the twenty-first century and has the following aims:
- Encourage early-stage projects that develop original and rigorous scientific approaches to post-war dynamics in the twenty-first century.
- Support interdisciplinary research developed in close collaboration with stakeholders from the economic, social and media sectors and/or journalism, in order to combine expertise and better understand political, social, economic and civic transformations.
- Foster the emergence of projects producing actionable and widely disseminable knowledge.
