Prize recognises a recent lupus-relevant discovery by an established investigator.

The Lupus Research Alliance (LRA) has opened nominations for its 2027 Lupus Insight Prize. LRA is a US-based non-profit organisation established in 2016 from the merger of the Alliance for Lupus Research, the Lupus Research Institute and the SLE Foundation.

The Lupus Insight Prize provides research support to an outstanding investigator with a documented record of creativity, innovation and productivity. It is intended to recognise a novel insight or discovery applicable to the pathogenesis or treatment of lupus, with the expectation that the awardee will be well placed to generate further advances by applying the insight to lupus.

The prize is awarded for a specific, significant and recent discovery made within the past five years. Research underpinning the nominated discovery may be basic, clinical or translational in nature. To be eligible for the 2027 edition, the nominee must have conducted the relevant research between 2022 and 2026.

Nominations are welcome for researchers worldwide who are affiliated with an academic, biomedical, research, government or biotechnology/pharmaceutical institution. Each nominator may submit only one candidate per year. LRA notes that once a nomination has been submitted, it will remain active for as long as the insight or discovery remains within the eligible five-year timeframe for subsequent editions.

The prize is valued at $100,000 and may be used at the discretion of the awardee. LRA expects the award to be used to apply the recognised discovery or insight towards advancing understanding of lupus and or its treatments.
