FOREUM-Boehringer Ingelheim Interdisciplinary Calls in Rheumatology and Data Science

Closing Date: 05-11-2026

Funding for interdisciplinary rheumatology and data science research conducted in EULAR member countries that improves the characterisation, subtyping, prediction and understanding of idiopathic inflammatory myopathies and systemic sclerosis.

FOREUM Foundation for Research in Rheumatology, based in Switzerland, is an independent research organisation working in the field of rheumatic and musculoskeletal diseases. FOREUM is supported by EULAR, the European League Against Rheumatism.

The new FOREUM-Boehringer Ingelheim Interdisciplinary Calls in Rheumatology and Data Science scheme will fund one project in each of the following areas:

  • Data Science for the Clinical Characterisation of Idiopathic Inflammatory Myopathies (IIMs) – The funded project should use complex healthcare or research data to facilitate the early characterisation of IIMs and/or the identification of clinically relevant disease subtypes.
  • Characterising Progression in Systemic Sclerosis – The funded project should use complex healthcare or research data to characterise or predict disease trajectories and/or the course of specific disease manifestations.

Funding will support research that benefits from close collaboration between the two disciplines of rheumatology and data science. Proposals that establish a meaningful link between data science and IIM/systemic sclerosis research are encouraged. Both preclinical and clinical studies will be considered. Relevant data science approaches may include, but are not limited to: advanced statistical analysis; data mining; machine learning and artificial intelligence; predictive modelling; computational analysis of complex healthcare or research data; and data visualisation techniques.
