AACR-John and Elizabeth Leonard Family Foundation Basic Cancer Research Fellowships

The American Association for Cancer Research (AACR) is running the John and Elizabeth Leonard Family Foundation Basic Cancer Research Fellowships to encourage and support postdoctoral or clinical research fellows to carry out a mentored research project in any area of basic cancer research. The award will give recipients experience of conducting their own project and support them in establishing a successful career path in cancer research.

Applicants must have a medical or doctoral degree (including PhD, MD, DO, DC, ND, DDS, DVM, ScD, DNS, PharmD, or equivalent doctoral degree) in a related field and not currently be a candidate for a further doctoral degree.

Applications will be accepted from researchers who will hold, at the start of the grant term, a mentored research position with the title of postdoctoral fellow, clinical research fellow, or the equivalent, and will have completed their most recent doctoral degree within the past three years. Applicants must also work under the auspices of a mentor at an academic, medical, or research institution anywhere in the world.

There are no citizenship or geographic requirements. However, applicants applying from an institution located within a country where they are not a citizen or permanent resident must ensure that their visa status will provide sufficient time to complete the project and grant term at the institution from which they applied.

AACR membership is required. Non-members interested in this grant opportunity must submit a satisfactory application for AACR Associate Membership by the deadline.

The award has a value of $120,000 over two years. Eligible project costs include salary and benefits of the fellow while working on a mentored basic cancer research project. A proportion of the funds may be designated for non-personnel expenses, such as research/laboratory supplies, equipment, publication charges for manuscripts that pertain directly to the funded project, and other research expenses.

Interested applicants should complete the online Letter of Intent form via the proposalCENTRAL website by the 30 October 2020 (13:00 US Eastern Time) deadline.

Selected applicants will be notified in December 2020. These candidates should then submit full applications via proposalCENTRAL by the 5 February 2021 deadline.

The grant term will begin on 1 July 2021.
