Academy of Medical Sciences Starter Grants for Clinical Lecturers Reopens
Funding available to cover the cost of research consumables for research-active Clinical Lecturers in the UK.
The Academy of Medical Sciences provides starter funds to enable research active Clinical Lecturers in the UK to pursue their research work. Clinical Lecturer posts provide a salary but often do not come with the funding to support the costs of the research.
The scheme was designed to help bridge this gap by providing Clinical Lecturers with access to modest research funds for up to two years. It gives them experience of preparing a research grant application and helps them establish their research portfolios by providing funding for research consumables.
Clinical Lecturers in the early years of their appointment, who have not yet obtained substantial funding from other sources such as large project grants or a New Investigator Award, are invited to apply. To be eligible, applicants must:
- Have a PhD or MD.
- Hold a medical, dental or veterinary undergraduate degree and be registered with the General Medical Council, General Dental Council or Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons.
- Hold a clinical contract.
The maximum grant available is £30,000. This can be spread over one to two years to contribute towards directly incurred research costs, including (but not limited to) consumables, access charges, access to data sets, essential software and licences, and equipment.
£2,500 is currently available to fund up to five public and patient contributor’s time and expenses. Use of this funding is not mandatory to apply for a Starter Grant.
Round 32 applications must be submitted by 5 September 2024 (16:00).
