BBSRC Discovery Fellowships Open to Applications
The Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council’s (BBSRC) Discovery Fellowship programme provides support for researchers wishing to undertake independent research and gain leadership skills.
Proposals can be submitted in any area of science within the BBSRC remit. Applications are particularly encouraged that are aligned with BBSRC’s overarching strategic priorities. This scheme is aimed at early career researchers who want to conduct their own independent research within a host laboratory. Applicants will have demonstrated high potential and have no more than five years of active postdoctoral research experience.
Applicants should have a PhD or be expecting to have undergone successful PhD viva prior to 30 November 2021. Applications are welcome from candidates seeking flexible working arrangements (eg part-time).
A project’s full economic cost (100% fEC) can be up to £500,000. BBSRC will fund 80% of this (£400,000). The applicant’s host research organisation must agree to fund the rest.
Awards are for three years and it is expected that up to 15 fellowships will be awarded. Funding can be used to support personal salary costs, travel and subsistence, training activities and research consumables.
Applications must be submitted by 6 May 2021 (16:00 BST).
There will only be one Discovery Fellowship opportunity open in 2021.
