BIH-Charité SPARK Translational Medicine Programme

Closing Date: 07/07/2025

Funding for research projects which focus on new technology, therapy, medical solution, or diagnostic assay with clinical potential at Charité university hospitals in Berlin, Germany.

The Charité – Universitätsmedizin (Charité University Hospital) is a single medical faculty, which serves the Freie Universität, Berlin, and the Humboldt Universität, Berlin. As one of the largest European university clinics, the Charité has four campuses and about hundred clinics and institutes, which make up a total of seventeen different Charité centres. The Charité supports research, teaching and clinical care of the highest international standard.

The SPARK-BIH Programme supports the development of novel therapies and preventives (such as small molecules, drug repurposing, ATMPs, vaccines, biologicals), medical devices and diagnostics, as well as the repurposing of existing drugs for new indications.

Funding is provided for translational research projects from all medical disciplines that develop pharmaceuticals/therapeutics, medical devices, diagnostics and preventives at BIH or Charité.

The programme offers funding for the following two tracks:

  • Track 1: This category is for projects that are still at an early stage and can provide some preliminary data to support their proposal.
  • Track 2: This category is for more mature projects that fulfil certain requirements regarding intellectual property rights and market access strategies.

All projects must aim at strengthening proof of principle or the validation of research findings with the goal of translating these into therapies, products or services.
