BMFTR – Kickstart FUTUR

Funding for feasibility studies that promote future-oriented energy supply in Germany. 

Within the Federal Government’s Seventh Energy Research Programme ‘Innovations for the Energy Transition‘, the Kickstart FUTUR initiative of the Bundesministerium für Forschung, Technologie und Raumfahrt (BMFTR – Federal Ministry of Research, Technology and Space) aims to provide targeted impetus for a future-oriented energy supply in Germany. The focus of the call is on visionary ideas, technological experiments and ambitious, high-risk research approaches with high innovation potential for a climate-neutral energy future.

Funding is provided for feasibility studies that collect initial reliable data and lay the foundations for further developments and potential collaborations with companies. The focus is on the following priority areas:

• Renewable energies and energy efficiency.
• Improving the efficiency and cost-effectiveness of production processes.
• Power-to-X technologies.
• Hydrogen storage and distribution.

Funding is available for projects up to and including Technology Readiness Level (TRL) 3.

The scheme is administered by the Project Management Agency Jülich on behalf of BMFTR.
