BMFTR – National Programme for Space-Based Applications Using Galileo and Promotion of NewSpace
Closing Date: 30-06-2027
Funding is provided for projects dedicated to the expansion and further development of existing fields of application for the EU’s Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) Galileo, as well as the development of new application fields, and the application-oriented, technical advancement of positioning and timing services within Galileo.
The funding initiative ‘National Programme for Space-Based Applications Using Galileo and Promotion of NewSpace‘ (Förderung von Vorhaben im Rahmen des nationalen Programms für raumfahrtbasierte Anwendungen mit Galileo und zur Förderung von NewSpace) is offered by Bundesministerium für Forschung, Technologie und Raumfahrt (BMFTR – Federal Ministry of Research, Technology and Space). Via the programme, BMFTR supports individual or collaborative projects which address the expansion and further development of existing fields of application for Galileo and its services, as well as the exploration of new ones, and the application-oriented, technical further development of the GNSS system or individual services.
The areas eligible for funding include:
- The expansion, further development and enhancement of existing Galileo applications and fields of application, with the aim of increasing the use of navigation data for various applications in business, science and public authorities.
- Highlighting the potential and exploring new fields of application for Galileo based on Galileo data, in order to drive forward digitalisation and technological progress (for example, miniaturisation, data visualisation, integration with AI, 5G/6G or geoinformation).
- Demonstrating applications across all sectors to raise awareness of the benefits and applications of Galileo amongst the general public and potential users (for example, flagship projects for Galileo-based solutions).
- Application-oriented, technical further development of positioning and timing services, receiver technologies, and support or augmentation methods to further improve the performance and accuracy of Galileo.
- Development and implementation of standards and certifications for Galileo-based applications to ensure their interoperability and quality.
