Breast Cancer UK Opens 2026 Round of Grant Funding
Breast Cancer UK is a charitable organisation established to help discover new and improved ways of tackling breast cancer. Its main focus is to fund clinical and laboratory project research undertaken in recognised cancer centres or research institutions in the UK and directly aimed at preventing breast cancer.
Breast Cancer UK is offering funding for projects exploring the relationship between all environmental contaminants that and breast cancer risk.
Two avenues of award are available:
- Career Development Awards (formerly the Foundation Awards) worth up to £200,000 will support early career researchers (ECRs) working in breast cancer prevention. Applications should focus on environmental contaminants (known or suspected) and breast cancer risk. Alongside the proposed funding for research, Breast Cancer UK will also offer an optional career coaching programme for the duration of the grant.
- Seed Grants worth up to £25,000 are focused on chemicals and breast cancer risk. Funding can be applied flexibly and can be utilised as a top-up for a project close to completion, to obtain a specific piece of equipment, or to fund a pilot project focused on chemicals and breast cancer risk.
Applicants may apply for more than one grant from either funding stream. Applicants must demonstrate how their project supports the broader aims and objectives of Breast Cancer UK.
Principal investigators working within recognised UK Higher Education Institutions may apply for grants. Those applying to the Career Development Awards:

- Will need to demonstrate an upward trajectory and career progression since their PhD was awarded.
- Have their own unique research plan.
