BSA Vronwy Hankey Memorial Travel Award for Pre-Doctoral Students

Funding available to support research on the prehistory of the Aegean and its connections with the East Mediterranean.

The British School at Athens (BSA) is an educational charity established in 1886. It now forms part of the British Academy’s network of Sponsored Institutes and Societies which sustains and supports British research overseas. The School’s function is to promote research of international excellence in all disciplines pertaining to Greek lands, from fine art to archaeometry and in all periods to modern times.

The BSA is offering the Vronwy Hankey Memorial Travel Award to students who have not yet started a doctoral course of study and whose interests are in the prehistory of the Aegean and its connections with the East Mediterranean. 

Applicants should have a clear plan of how they will spend their time in Greece. This might involve (but is not limited to):

  • Using the BSA library.
  • Accessing the BSA collections.
  • Visiting museums and sites.
  • Attending conferences and events. 

Preference may be given to candidates who have not visited Greece before, and who have no access to other sources of funding.
