CEPI Innovations to Prepare for Future Epidemics and Pandemics

Closing Date: 14/12/2026

Funding for international projects which contribute to the advancement of vaccine platforms and vaccine candidates to accelerate the development of vaccines against known high-risk pathogens.

CEPI (Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations) is a global partnership between public, private, philanthropic and civil organisations to develop vaccines to stop future epidemics. It was launched in 2007 at the World’s Economic Forum, Davos and has its headquarters in Norway. To date, CEPI has secured over $750 million funding, with financial support provided by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, the Wellcome Trust, the European Commission, and the governments of Australia, Belgium, Canada, Germany, Japan, Norway and the United Kingdom.

CEPI’s Innovations to Prepare for Future Epidemics and Pandemics call for proposals aims to support CEPI’s mission by advancing a broad range of vaccine innovations for pathogens with epidemic or pandemic potential, including novel pathogens capable of infecting and causing disease in humans (ie Disease X). It supports vaccine research, development and manufacturing innovations for CEPI’s priority pathogens and contributes towards the 100 Days Mission, thereby helping the world prepare for known and future epidemic and pandemic threats.

The call is divided into two Focus Areas:

  • The objective of Focus Area 1 is to advance vaccine platforms that can transform outbreak response to Disease X, addressing needs for speed, safety/efficacy, and access. Through proposals awarded under this Focus Area, CEPI aims to build significant preclinical, chemistry, manufacturing and controls (CMC), clinical, and regulatory expertise with vaccine platforms that could be leveraged for rapid adoption in an outbreak and made accessible to all populations that need them.
  • The objective for Focus Area 2 is to advance new vaccine candidates for CEPI priority pathogens and viral families, aligned with CEPI’s strategic objectives to accelerate development of vaccines against known high-risk pathogens and to build a library of exemplar vaccines against prototype viruses from high-risk viral families to give a head-start on novel threats (Disease X).
