Coefficient Giving Navigating Transformative AI Fund

Funding to support projects that build capacity to address risks from transformative AI.

Coefficient Giving (previously Open Philanthropy) is a philanthropic funder and advisor which works to share resources to support causes that are often neglected.

Coefficient Giving’s Navigating Transformative AI Fund aims to reduce the risk of global catastrophe and help society prepare for major advances in artificial intelligence (AI). The fund support research in the following areas:

• Technical AI safety research aimed at making advanced AI systems more trustworthy, robust, controllable and aligned.
• AI governance and policy work to develop frameworks for safe, secure, and responsibly managed AI development.
• Capacity building to grow and strengthen the field of researchers and practitioners working on these challenges.

Navigating Transformative AI Fund, Coefficient Giving operates a call to fund work that builds capacity to address risks from transformative AI. The call aims to support projects that:

• Help new talent get into work focused on addressing risks from transformative AI, including people from academic or professional fields outside computer science or machine learning.
• Support existing talent in this field (eg via events that help build professional networks).
• Contribute to the discourse about transformative AI and its possible effects, positive and negative.

Coefficient Giving are looking to build capacity in a number of different fields deemed important for navigating transformative AI, including (but not limited to) technical alignment research, model evaluation and forecasting, AI governance and policy, information security, and research on the economics of AI.
