European Commission Innovation Fund Launches €2.9 Billion Net-Zero Technologies Call
Five topics support decarbonisation projects to reduce GHG emissions
The European Commission is inviting applications for five Topics launched under the Innovation Fund’s €2.9 billion Net-Zero Technologies Call.
The Call aims to support decarbonisation projects that demonstrate highly innovative technologies, processes, business models or products and services that are sufficiently mature and have a significant potential to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. It also offers financial support tailored to market needs and risk profiles of eligible projects, while attracting additional public and private resources.
The call covers the following topics:
- General decarbonisation (large-scale): €1.2 billion available for projects with CAPEX above €100 million.
- General decarbonisation (medium-scale): €300 million available for projects with CAPEX between €20 million and €100 million.
- General decarbonisation (small-scale): €100 million available for projects with CAPEX between €2.5 million and €20 million.
- Cleantech manufacturing: €1 billion available for projects with CAPEX above €2.5 million focusing on the manufacturing of components for renewable energy, energy storage, heat pumps and electrolysers and fuel cells for hydrogen production and consumption.
- Pilot Projects: €300 million available for projects with CAPEX above €2.5 million focusing on deep decarbonisation.
The Innovation Fund can cover up to 60% of a project’s relevant costs. Projects located in the EEA are eligible to apply.
Recognising that small-scale innovations can play an important role in Europe’s decarbonisation efforts, a new dedicated bonus point will be issued for projects coordinated and implemented only by SMEs.
On 16 December 2025, the European Climate, Infrastructure and Environment Executive Agency (CINEA) and the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Climate Action (DG CLIMA) will host an info day for the call, during which the key features of the call will be presented. This includes its design and objectives, the application and evaluation process, ‘lessons learned’ from previous calls, best practices, and Q&A. Applicants can register to attend the event until 15 December 2025.
