Fondation de France Launches Call for Nature-Based Solutions to Address the Challenges of Climate Change
Grants of between €30,000 and €100,000 are available.
The Fondation de France is an independent philanthropic network that undertakes its own programmes and those of the hundreds of funds and foundations under its aegis.
The Foundation has launched a call for projects which use nature-based solutions (NBS) to address the challenges of climate change. The objectives of the call are to support:
- The emergence of NBS projects, thanks to the establishment of exchanges and consultation frameworks in rural and peri-urban areas.
- The strengthening of NBS projects currently being set up, through support for the structuring of land management, governance and consultation frameworks.
Nature-based solutions (NBS) are defined by the Union internationale pour la conservation de la nature (UICN – International Union for Conservation of Nature) as ‘actions aimed at protecting, sustainably managing and restoring natural or modified ecosystems to directly address societal challenges in an effective and adaptive manner, while ensuring human well-being and producing benefits for biodiversity’. The support provided by the Foundation primarily targets NBS projects located in rural and peri-urban areas in mainland France and French overseas territories, exposed to the risks of natural disasters. Proposed projects must address issues of prevention or adaptation to natural disaster risks (floods, erosion, drought etc).
The following institutions are eligible to be project leaders:
- Associations and non-governmental organisations (NGOs).
- Natural space managers.
- Public establishments (education, research etc).
- Communities.
The funding requested per project should be between €30,000 and €100,000 and may extend over a maximum period of four years.
