The annual competition University Teacher of the Year (Hochschullehrer/in des Jahres) is presented annually by Deutscher Hochschulverband (DHV – German Association of University Professors and Lecturers) with financial support from the publishing house Zeitverlag Gerd Bucerius GmbH Co. & KG. The award is designed to promote excellent higher education in Germany. It honours university professors who have shown exceptional dedication to higher education teaching in their work and promoted the reputation of the profession in the public eye.

The award winners receive a prize sum of €10,000.

Eligible for the award are professors that are associated with a German university according to corporate law, as well as German professors working abroad. Both individuals and teams will be considered.

Candidates must be nominated by third parties.
