Glaucoma UK PhD Studentship
Closing Date: 01/04/2025
Three year studentship to support PhD research on glaucoma at an institution in the UK or Ireland.
Glaucoma UK is a research charity and support organisation for people affected by glaucoma. The Glaucoma UK research programme awards an annual fund of around £400,000 to support research aligned with its research strategy (pdf link) with the overall objective of ending preventable sight loss caused by glaucoma
The Glaucoma UK PhD Studentship awards funding over three years to support PhD candidates conducting glaucoma research at an institution in the UK or Republic of Ireland. Projects can address any aspect of glaucoma care, or improve understanding of the causes of glaucoma.
The host institution should provide an ideal environment to support the early career development of the researcher, laying the foundation for a successful career in glaucoma research.
Projects should also aim to support priorities for glaucoma research identified by the UK Clinical Eye Research Strategy Priorities:
- What are the most effective treatments for glaucoma and how can treatment be improved?
- How can any vision loss be restored for people with glaucoma?
- What can be done to avoid late diagnosis of sight-threatening glaucoma?
- What is the most effective way of monitoring the progression of glaucoma?
- What causes glaucoma?
- Is there a link between treatment adherence and glaucoma progression and how can adherence be improved?
