Grigor McClelland Doctoral Dissertation Award

Prize awarded to innovative scholarship demonstrated within a PhD or DBA thesis in management and organisation studies. 

Established in 1963, the Society for the Advancement of Management Studies (SAMS) is a UK charity that provides a governance structure for the Journal of Management Studies and seeks to advance education in the field of management studies.

The charity was founded by Grigor McClelland, who was also the founding editor of the Journal of Management Studies and the founding Director of Manchester Business School. The Grigor McClelland Doctoral Dissertation Award is an annual prize created in his honour. The prize is awarded to innovative scholarship demonstrated within a PhD or (Doctor of Business Administration) DBA thesis in any discipline within management and organisation studies.

The award aims to promote and recognise pioneering research in the industry. SAMS does not specify any preference towards topic or method; its primary focus is to recognise and award doctoral research that is expansive and imaginative in that it covers significantly new terrain, counters existing thinking and has the potential for significant impact on managerial practice and society.
