IHME Roux Prize Open for Nominations

The Roux Prize was established in 2013 to recognise the use of disease burden research in bold, innovative and impactful ways to improve population health. The prize is administered by the Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation (IHME), based at the University of Washington, and is awarded each year to recognise and reward individuals or groups that have applied health evidence in bold ways to safeguard public health and make people healthier.

Disease burden research is a systematic, scientific effort to quantify the comparative magnitude of health loss due to diseases, injuries, and risk factors by age, sex, and geography over time. IHME is the co-ordinating centre for the Global Burden of Disease (GBD) effort, a collaborative, research-driven resource for informed policy-making that dates back to 1993 and is the most comprehensive effort to measure epidemiological levels and trends around the world.

The $100,000 prize is awarded to any individual or group that has used health evidence in innovative ways to improve population health. Recipients might be leaders or staff in government agencies, researchers at academic institutions, volunteers in charitable organisations, or health providers working in the community.

Nominations are welcomed from anywhere in the world. General preference is given to individuals; self-nominations are discouraged.

Nominations for the 2021 prize must be submitted online via the IHME website by the deadline of 28 February 2021.
