Fund supports physical, remote or hybrid access to European research facilities relating to climate change-related risks.

Integrated Research Infrastructure Services for Climate Change Risks (IRISCC) is an Horizon Europe-funded project designed to empower society to understand, predict and build resilience to climate change risks by providing access to innovative research infrastructure (RI) services. The project has a total budget of nearly €15 million over a 54-month period from April 2024 to September 2028.

IRISCC brings together a diverse network of RIs, including observatories, experimental facilities, modelling capabilities, and advanced data infrastructures, spanning environmental and social sciences across various domains. This collaboration provides a range of services for researchers, policymakers, and stakeholders engaged in climate change risk management.

As part of its activities, IRISCC provides sponsored access to cutting-edge climate research services, facilities, and data through Transnational (physical, remote, and hybrid) and Virtual Access through a series of calls running from 2025-28. The calls support high-impact research addressing key topics such as ecosystem resilience, climate-driven health risks, water management, and food systems. Multi-RI engagement, interdisciplinary approaches, and integration of Climate Change Risk determinants are encouraged.

Access is open to researchers, policymakers, public authorities and professionals from both academia and industry. Applicants must access RIs and services in a country different from their own, with exceptions for all services/installations connected to AnaEE ERIC and EMBRC ERIC. Applicants whose proposals include multiple services or facilities from different infrastructures will automatically receive bonus points during the evaluation.

Successful applicants will be granted full access to IRISCC services, installations, and data. Travel and subsistence of up to €2,000 per proposal are available.

A fast-track call is also available for researchers requiring immediate access to IRISCC’s services in response to climate emergencies. The fast-track call is continuously open over 2025-28 and provides a swift evaluation process so that researchers in urgent need of scientific resources can receive timely support.
