MSI: SME Resource and Energy Efficiency – Industrial Research and Feasibility Studies Competitions
Closing Date: 10/12/2025
UK organisations can apply for grants across the two strands of this competition, to develop industrial digital technologies that can improve resource or energy efficiencies in SME manufacturers.
This competition is jointly operated by Innovate UK (IUK) and the Department for Business and Trade (DBT). Made Smarter Innovation (MSI) is a DBT funded programme aimed at transforming the UK’s manufacturing industry. This will be achieved by supporting R&D and the commercial scale up of innovative digital technologies.
The aim of the competition is to explore new industrial digital technologies (IDTs) for manufacturers. These IDTs will improve the sustainability, resilience and productivity of UK micro, small or medium-sized enterprise (SME) manufacturers by improving energy or resource efficiency.
Projects must focus on the innovation of digital solutions relating to one or more energy or resource efficiencies, and must be affordable, easy to use and scalable across SMEs.
This competition is split into two strands; one focused on Feasibility Studies and one focused on Industrial Research projects.
