The National Academy of Medicine (NAM), established in 1970 as the Institute of Medicine (IOM), is an independent US-based organisation of peer-elected professionals from fields including health and medicine, as well as the natural, social, and behavioural sciences.

The NAM David and Beatrix Hamburg Award for Advances in Biomedical Research and Clinical Medicine is presented annually to one or more scientists in recognition of an exceptional biomedical research discovery and/or translation that has fundamentally enriched understanding of human biology and disease, leading to a significant reduction of disease burden and improvement in human health.
