NEC/Porticus Foundation Trust Fellowship Programme

Closing Date: 18/01/2026

Fellowships at the New Europe College in Bucharest, Romania are available to postdoctoral humanities and social sciences scholars for projects addressing the erosion of trust in science in the digital age.

The New Europe College (NEC), founded in 1994, is an independent Romanian institute for advanced study in the humanities and social sciences. The College, based in Bucharest, seeks to provide an institutional framework with strong international links and a stimulating environment for interdisciplinary dialogue and critical debates.

With financial support from the Porticus Foundation, NEC is offering fellowships for projects that aim to examine the factors that contribute to the erosion of trust in science in the digital age. The programme invites research into the cultural, historical, ethical and symbolic dimensions of digital misinformation. Fellows will investigate the ways in which science is distorted, manipulated or instrumentalised in digital environments. They will analyse the mechanisms of misinformation, identify the key actors who sustain it, and situate these practices within broader ideological, political and economic agendas.

The fellowship programme is suited to scholars working in any discipline across the humanities and social sciences. Interdisciplinary approaches are encouraged.

During the fellowship, fellows will work on their projects and take part in the scholarly events organised by NEC. They will attend the weekly seminars discussing progress in their work and will hand in a final research paper on the project carried out during the fellowship.
