Official Launch of the Publishing Platform for Scientific Papers – Open Research Europe
The European Commission’s dedicated publishing platform for Horizon 2020 funded research has been officially launched and its first publications are now live. The platform will also publish research stemming from Horizon Europe, the new EU research and innovation programme for 2021-2027.
Open Research Europe is an open access publishing platform that supports the European Commission’s vision to drive innovation and economic growth by removing barriers to scientific discovery, facilitating progress towards securing Europe’s global competitiveness in innovation, and ultimately benefiting health and wellbeing across the globe.
The platform is an optional service for Horizon Europe and Horizon 2020 beneficiaries so that they can comply with their funding requirements for immediate open access, at no cost to them. It welcomes submissions from all disciplines. The platform publishes original research that has not been published before and is not considered for peer review elsewhere. Currently, Open Research Europe publishes articles in English only.
After passing a series of checks, articles will be published rapidly and in compliance with the European Commission’s policies on open access. The platform features a wide range of metrics to measure the scientific and social impact of articles and provide information of their use and re-use.
Mariya Gabriel, Commissioner for Innovation, Research, Culture, Education and Youth said,
‘We need to accelerate scientific discovery through more collaborative and open research practices. By helping researchers to publish in open access, Open Research Europe removes the barriers to knowledge flows and cultivates scientific debate. This is just the beginning. We will gradually build the reputation of the platform as the publishing venue of choice for the researchers of Horizon 2020 and Horizon Europe, and ensure it becomes deeply embedded in the European Research Area.’
